Our Story

MIA Games was born from a simple conviction: the web's most beloved classic games should be accessible to everyone, everywhere, without friction. No app store, no account creation, no payment — just open your browser and play.

The idea first took shape during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when millions of people were stuck at home looking for quick, accessible ways to stay entertained and mentally sharp. I noticed that while there were countless gaming platforms online, most of them required downloads, accounts, or intrusive tracking. The few that didn't were often poorly designed, slow to load, or cluttered with aggressive ads that ruined the experience.

That's when I decided to build something different — a platform where the games themselves are the focus, not the monetisation strategy. Every game on MIA Games is hand-coded from scratch using pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. There are no third-party libraries, no bloated frameworks, and no unnecessary requests that slow down the page. Each game is designed to load instantly and run smoothly on any device, from a high-end gaming PC to a budget smartphone.

The project is a solo venture by John, a freelance technology professional operating under his company MIA Tech Services. With a background spanning Power Platform development, SQL Server, data analytics, web development, and enterprise application delivery, John brings the full stack of technical discipline to what might look like a simple gaming site — but is engineered to professional standards beneath the surface.

The long-term goal is to build a sustainable, ad-supported gaming destination that generates passive income while providing genuine value to casual players worldwide. Every design decision — from ad placement to game difficulty — is made with both the player experience and the AdSense content policies in mind.

The Platform

MIA Games runs entirely in the browser with no server-side processing, no databases, and no user accounts. Game scores and preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage — meaning your data never leaves your device. The platform is intentionally lightweight: pages load in under a second on a typical mobile connection because there is no runtime framework to download.

HTML5 — Every page uses semantic markup with proper heading structures, ARIA labels, and JSON-LD structured data. This ensures search engines understand our content and screen readers can navigate our games effectively. We also include breadcrumb navigation on every game page to improve usability and SEO.
CSS3 — We use a single shared style.css file with a comprehensive design token system (CSS custom properties) for colours, typography, spacing, and animations. This approach ensures visual consistency across all 15 pages while allowing each game to have its own isolated stylesheet for game-specific layouts and animations. The dark/light theme switching is powered entirely by CSS variables, with user preferences stored in localStorage.
Vanilla JavaScript (ES6+) — Every game is built with modular, framework-free JavaScript. We use algorithms like Minimax for Tic-Tac-Toe's AI (with alpha-beta pruning for performance), backtracking for Sudoku puzzle generation and solving, and breadth-first search (BFS) for Minesweeper's flood-fill reveal. Sound effects are synthesised dynamically using the Web Audio API, eliminating the need for external audio files and reducing load times.
Google AdSense — We use standard IAB ad units (728×90 leaderboard, 300×250 rectangle, 300×600 tall sidebar) placed strictly outside all interactive game areas. Ad containers are clearly labelled and fully compliant with AdSense Programme Policies. We do not use pop-ups, auto-play video ads, or any format that interrupts gameplay.
localStorage — High scores, best times, win streaks, theme preference, and difficulty selection all persist locally in your browser. We never transmit this data to our servers because we believe your gaming statistics are your business — not ours. You can clear all game data at any time through your browser's site settings.

Our Development Journey

MIA Games was built across three distinct tiers, each representing a different phase of the development process. This approach allowed us to focus on quality over quantity, ensuring that each game received the attention it deserved before moving on to the next batch. The entire platform was built over several months, with each tier adding a new gameplay category to ensure variety and depth.

Here's how we approached the build:

Tier 1 Classic Foundations ✅ Complete

We started with five timeless classics that require minimal graphics and focus on pure gameplay. This tier established our core engineering patterns, UI components, and accessibility standards — the foundation for everything that followed.

Tier 2 Strategy & Logic ✅ Complete

The second tier introduced games that require deeper thinking and strategy. We implemented AI opponents using the Minimax algorithm with alpha-beta pruning for Connect Four, and built a fully functional Sudoku generator and solver with backtracking. These games pushed our engineering capabilities to the next level.

Tier 3 Arcade & Word ✅ Complete

The final tier rounded out the collection with fast-paced arcade action and vocabulary challenges. Pong required real-time physics and input handling, while Word Search demanded efficient search algorithms to generate and place words in all eight directions. Simon added memory training with colour and sound sequence recognition.

Looking ahead: While the core collection of 12 games is now complete, we're always exploring new ideas. Future updates may include multiplayer functionality, global leaderboards, and additional games based on user feedback.
